“In this pre-Christmas mood, it is with deep sadness that we must inform you that our almost eight-year marriage with my husband Tomas Ilves has come to an end,” Latvian Ieva Ilves, spouse of the former President of Estonia, wrote on Facebook.
“No moment is good for such decisions; however, at the moment, after much thought and respecting Thomas’ choice, it is clear to me that in the future we will go our separate ways, taking care of the children’s well-being together,” says Ilvesa.
She emphasizes that she is grateful from the bottom of her heart to the people of Estonia, who so warmly accepted her and always welcomed her warmly both in Tallinn and in the countryside.
“I have always felt at home in Estonia. I have learned a lot from you and I am taking your experience, especially in the technology sector, further to the world – currently working in Ukraine. Suur aitäh (thank you very much – in Estonian),” says Ieva Ilvesa’s post.
