In 2019, Yann Mongaburu (Verts/Ades), then President of the Transport Union, adopted an ambitious Urban Travel Plan (PDU) which covered all segments of public transport. The tram to Lesdiguières, the transition from 5 to 8 tram lines, high-frequency buses from Montbonnot to the Presqu’ile, the completion of Chronovélo, all promised to be completed in 2023. There was some tram everywhere, fast buses, footbridges, the RER Grenoblois and… cable transport.
Christophe Ferrari (repentant PS) and the other left enthusiastically voted for this PDU while remaining silent on the essential: it was not 70% funded!

TWO-THIRDS OF THE PIOLLE/MONGABURU PDU WAS NOT FINANCED
Because after the attempt by Piolle and his friends to eliminate Christophe Ferrari, the latter revealed the pot of roses: “two thirds of the PDU was not financed. I remind you that the ADTC itself had noted it, it was not an investment PDU. So we could always make people dream…”. A few months before the municipal elections, the Grenoble leftists wanted to make people dream. Piolle lied about everything, including promising that taxes would not increase.
THEY PLANNED FUNDING FOR USERS UNTIL 2030!
Since then, with an unfunded travel plan, the Red/Green elected officials have added the demand for free travel. The same people who included in “their” PDU user participation (i.e. the purchase of paid tickets and subscriptions!) which would cover 31% of the network operating costs in 2030.
PIOLLE: “THE CABLE BETWEEN FONTAINE AND ST-MARTIN LE VINOUX IS ESSENTIAL”
The metrocable operation involves the same tactic. While Eric Piolle affirmed “ the cable between Fontaine and Saint-Martin-le-Vinoux is an essential means of public transport to accommodate new jobs without increasing automobile traffic, proving to be the best solution », the city of Grenoble has just sent a negative opinion on December 21 to the public inquiry into the metrocable project.

We regret to note that the “Dauphiné”, under the pen of Antonin Seux (DL of 12/23), judges that this opinion is “without surprise”. A little recent history, at least the presentation and vote of the PDU by the Red/Greens before the municipal elections, including the metrocable, could be opportunely recalled. These are facts.
…AND GIVE A NEGATIVE OPINION IN 2023
The change of heart is justified by the argument according to which the entire “Portes du Vercors” concrete project cannot be carried out in Sassenage due to the risk of flooding. It is only motivated by the fact that they lost the battle for the Presidency of the metropolis and lost the helm of the Transport Union to Sylvain Laval. Who had the audacity, over the course of the files, to draw up a sort of inventory of Mongaburu/Piolle management.
THE DISPLACEMENT ASSESSMENT OF PIOLLE/MONGABURU CATASTROPHIC
It obviously hurts a lot: not a single km of additional tram, 4 million euros gone up in smoke for electric buses that don’t run, a spectacular surge in debt and the delay in investment to renew the rolling stock , a drop in the number of public transport users… The Greens have become even more Red to see themselves brought back to their reality.

PREVENT ANY ACHIEVEMENT IN THE MANDATE

The cost, the investment/number of users ratio is obviously very questionable. But it was already in 2019 when Piolle and Mongaburu launched it.
ADDITIONAL “COLLECTIVES” ARE AT WORK
The turnaround is therefore essentially opportunistic and political. As with free transport, we see the emergence of very active collectives, often led by representatives of the Grenoble majority. It’s about paralyzing.
Knowing that obviously nothing will happen on the other fronts, the yram or the bus lines and nothing on the famous “RER Grenoblois” postponed indefinitely.
SETTLEMENTS OF ACCOUNTS BEFORE THE COMMON GOOD
On all issues, the Grenoble Red/Greens have replaced concrete action with incantation, ideology or the settling of political scores. The result is known on a financial level for the catastrophic situation of the city, on an ecological level with the ranking at the end of the table or in terms of travel and public transport.
A GREAT COLLECTIVE RETURN
The war waged against Christophe Ferrari and Sylvain Laval takes place in this sect culture which only defends its interests. It does not even seek to reconcile them with the common good, to advance the territory and services to residents. The metrocable is only an unfortunate element of this puzzle whose final assembly is known in advance: the painting of a great collective retreat caused by immobility.
