National Wrestling Federation to Address Suspension Issue with Government: President Sanjay Singh

New Delhi: The National Wrestling Federation will not approach the court soon over the suspension of the new governing body. The new management committee said that they will not go to court soon. The new president Sanjay Singh will meet the Prime Minister and the Sports Minister. It is decided to approach the court only if the ban is not lifted.

The sports ministry said that the adhoc committee will be appointed soon. The committee was elected on 21st of this month, headed by Sanjay Singh, who is close to former president and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Prominent star Sakshi Malik had announced his retirement and returned the Bajrang Punia Padma Shri in protest of the federation continuing under the control of Brij Bhushan, accused in the sexual assault case. Out of 15 members of the committee, 13 are followers of Brijbhushan.

The central action comes after warning that more stars will take the protest route. Meanwhile, the ministry cited violations as the reason for the action. Central government sources said that it was decided to hold the National Under-15 and Under-20 Wrestling Championships from 28th to 30th of this month in Brij Bhushan’s hometown of Gonda Nandini Nagar in UP and not enough time was given to the players.

The executive committee was not informed. The new general secretary Premchand Lochab, who won from the opposition panel, had written to the president that he was not aware of the decision to hold the championship. Moreover, the federation still operates from Brijbhushan’s official residence.
