The New York Police Department (NYPD) is investigating bomb threats sent by email to synagogues throughout the Big Applealthough the messages could be false or a hoax, authorities reported.

“The NYPD is aware of and actively investigating a series of emails that have been sent to synagogues in the city indicating possible bomb threats. These emails appear to be part of another series of ‘hits’ or misleading threatssimilar to campaigns we have seen across the country and in our city over the past few months,” the officials explained in a statement.
“We will continue to work hand-in-hand with our law enforcement partners, places of worship, and community leaders to keep New York City safe,” the statement said.
“We ask all New Yorkers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police. If you see something, report it by calling 9-1-1 or 1-888-NYC-SAFE.”
The synagogue Beth Jacob Ohev Shalom in Williamsburg is among places believed to have received bomb threatreported Daily News.
“This synagogue is the oldest Orthodox congregation in Brooklyn and Queens”Democratic state senator Julia Salazar tweeted. “It is a beautiful and historic presence in Williamsburg where Jewish parishioners and community members deserve to always feel safe.”
Sunday’s bomb threats come amid a shocking rise in anti-Semitic incidents in New York City and in other states of the country since it began between Israel and Hamas on October 7.
For her part, Inna Vernikov, a Republican councilwoman for Brooklyn, demanded that An investigation was opened into the case.
“Making bomb threats, even if they are false, is a crime and whoever is responsible must be arrested and held accountable,” he tweeted.
