In mid-November, the Munich-Haar Disciples announced on social media that Ryan ‘Boomer’ Saunders was stepping down as head coach. Now the Disciples have agreed to work together with Boomer’s successor for the next few years: Charles Poe looks back on a long career – mostly in the minor league (MiLB). In the 1990 MLB June Amateur Draft, the outfielder from West Covina, California was selected in the 6th round by the Chicago White Sox. Poe played a total of nine years in MiLB for the White Sox, A’s and Padres organizations, making it to the AAA level.

Beginning in 2003, Poe began his coaching career as a hitting coach for the Charleston Alley Cats (then Blue Jays). Further coaching positions in MiLB followed for the Blue Jays and White Sox organizations. Poe received his first managerial position in 2014 with the Great Falls Voyagers (White Sox).

For the 2020 season, which was canceled due to the Covid pandemic, Poe was scheduled to manage the Winston-Salem Dash (White Sox). He then served as hitting coach for the Rakuten Monkeys in Taiwan, where he also worked with Ryan Bollinger (disciples pitching coach 2023, among others). Contact between the Bundesliga club from Munich and the 52-year-old Poe came about through Bollinger.
