A consortium of local authorities, which manage the Rahma cemetery at Dar Bouazza near Casablanca, has announced that an agreement has been signed to create the “first intelligent and secure” cemetery in the region, al3omk reports. This project, estimated at more than 37 million dirhams, includes the installation of surveillance cameras and illuminated signposts, as well as the purchase of six electric vehicles intended to facilitate the movements of visitors.

The initiative, in which agencies such as the Nouaceur Development Company, the Prefecture of Nouaceur and the Ministry of the Interior participate, aims to promote innovation and digitalization to improve security and user experience. It also aims to strengthen accessibility and services within the cemeteries, which are considered essential public spaces.
However, the project is subject to discussion. “Local observers and civic associations in the province of Nouaceur consider this project as ‘suspicious’ because the amount allocated is considered excessive,” the medium writes.

The financing of the project will be shared between the General Directorate of Local Collectivities, which will contribute almost 17 million dirhams, and the group “Tacharok”, which will release more than 20 million dirhams. The Nouaceur development company will manage the cemetery, including reception, camera surveillance and electric vehicle management, for a period of three years after the end of the works.
