Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been transferred to a penal colony in Siberia, his spokeswoman Kira Yarmish announced today.
Almost three weeks it was not known exactly where he was the Kremlin critic. He was jailed in January 2021 after returning to Russia from treatment in Germany following an attempted poisoning.
“Alexei Navalny has been discovered. He is in colony IK-3 in Harp “Polar Wolf”, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug – one of the most northern and remote colonies ever. The conditions there are harsh, with a special regime. It is very difficult to get there and there are no mail delivery systems,” Yarmish wrote on social networks.
We found Alexey @navalny ! Thanks to our supporters, activists, journalists and media who are worried about Alexey’s fate, who never tire of writing about the situation with Alexey Navalny, who are trying to find out where he is.
From the very beginning it was clear that the authorities wanted to isolate Alexey,… pic.twitter.com/59jYa9d6Bx

She specifies that Navalny’s lawyer managed to meet with him, but they did not let him go on the first attempt.
The penal colony in question is about 60 kilometers from the Arctic Circle. Before being moved there, the opposition leader was in the penal colony in Melehovo, Vladimir region.
47-year-old Navalny was convicted 19 years in prison for extremism.
