Willem van Hanegem is not happy with the recent performance of Igor Paixão, de Kromme said in the annual overview of the AD Willem & Wessel podcast. Journalist Mikos Gouka thinks he knows the reason why the 23-year-old winger is performing less for Feyenoord than last season. “He misses Danilo.”
Paixão was accurate for Feyenoord during the victories against FC Volendam (3-1) and FC Utrecht (2-1), but Van Hanegem is not happy with his performance this season. “It’s a good thing that Paixão makes it, because otherwise they would have had to send him away immediately. He really doesn’t hit a ball anymore.”
Van Hanegem is bothered by the Brazilian’s behavior. “He’s just giving thumbs up. Then I think: just start playing better.” The Feyenoord club icon thinks that Paixão should be less concerned with the opinions of others.
“He can play football well, but he should spend less time in front of the mirror,” Van Hanegem continues. “That’s much better.” With his comment, Van Hanegem is not referring to Paixão’s nude video, which the winger recently accidentally posted on his Instagram.
“That’s not what I mean. He shouldn’t stand in front of the mirror, but look in the mirror. The difference with last season is very big. In the beginning he played well, he is a good player, but in recent months he has struggled with shooting in. And not just him.”
Danilo
Gouka, also present in the podcast, thinks he knows why Paixão is performing less. “He misses Danilo. He translated everything for him. Paixão also has other friends in the Feyenoord playing group, but if Danilo had not been there last season he would already have spoken Dutch. That is really said.
Danilo closed the door behind him in De Kuip last summer. The 24-year-old striker proved himself as an excellent reserve striker in South Rotterdam last season. In 48 games he scored 14 goals and 4 assists. Feyenoord ultimately managed to make a decent profit from Danilo. The right leg came over on a free transfer from arch-rival Ajax in 2022, before leaving for Rangers a year later for more than 6 million euros.
