After winning the lottery jackpot, this British woman thought she was living a daydream. The problem? This gain transformed his life into a real nightmare.
In 2012, Gillian Bayford, a Scottish woman from Dundee, won €187 million in the Euromillions. Against all odds, this victory destroyed his life and his family relationships.
In an interview with the tabloid Mirror, the millionaire explains that her family has put her through real hell since her victory. At the time, Gillian Bayford had decided to pay 20 million pounds (around 25 million euros) to her parents and her brother so that they could repay their debts.

But that’s not all ! She also offered an apartment on the Scottish coast. Pushed by her parents, Gillian Bayford was forced to give around 1 million euros to her brother. This gain allowed him to create a new business.
The winner experienced a descent into hell
The problem? According to Gillian, her family members became greedy and mean. In fact, his relatives only asked for more and more money:
« They kept contacting me for more. They already bought houses and cars, but they always wanted more (…) They have lost contact with their origins (…) They make fun of people. I find it unpleasant. Today, they live in an apartment for 300,000 euros and drive an Audi S8,” the forty-year-old told the local press at the time.

Unsurprisingly, Gillian Bayford’s family ties deteriorated. Result: she was not invited to her brother’s wedding and no longer speaks to her mother. Note that his father died in 2021.
The poor woman experienced further humiliation when her husband – with whom she shared the winnings – decided to leave her to form a relationship with a younger woman.
