Maronite Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rai noted, in his sermon during the Christmas Mass, that “the bankruptcy of the National Social Security Fund is a serious warning, and it is unfortunate that this situation is absent from political and parliamentary discourse.”
He added: “Let this Christmas bring about a spiritual revolution in the life of every human being. The world today, the world of boasting and bullying, needs this internal revolution, otherwise things will remain as they are in terms of corruption, conflicts, and playing with the fate of the nations,” expressing his regret that the internal coup did not happen at the level of our homeland, Lebanon, and we were waiting for a transformation. In the hearts of the nation’s representatives and their blocs, he urges them to elect a competent, clean-handed president of the republic, devoid of any personal or sectarian interest. We waited for Christmas from them, but “there is no Christmas” because there is a saying that says, “No one can give what he does not have.”
Al-Rahi stressed that “we pray for the election of a president, the implementation of expected reforms, and the removal of social security from its known obstacles.”
