The group received a call from the police because it was suspected that the group included illegal migrants who were planning to take them across the nearby Czech border.
The beginnings of the club can be traced back to 2016, when a group of volunteers, many of whom are from Syria, started organizing regular activities and hikes.
The initiative proved successful, offering participants the opportunity to explore Germany while meeting new people. The group soon became a registered club, organizing longer hikes and expeditions for newcomers and Germans alike.
As the group headed back to the hotel they were staying at, they found the road blocked by a police car.
A spokesman for the group said: “Someone must have called the police. We saw a lot of people who looked like refugees or migrants. Most of us were Syrian, we spoke Arabic, so they heard a language they didn’t recognize and called the police.”
A spokesman for the group told police that all the hikers were in the country legally and most were also German citizens.
The group had to explain the situation to the German police.
