The triathlete Luisa Baptista29 years old, was transferred from Santa Casa de São Carlos (SP) to the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (HCFMUSP), in the early hours of this Monday (25).
Luisa was subjected to extracorporeal circulation therapy and had “important improvement“, according to the Santa Casa press office. (see below).

According to the Santa Casa de São Carlos (SP) press office, a team of intensivists from HC was at the hospital on Sunday night (24) and subjected the athlete to extracorporeal circulation therapywhich is when a device temporarily replaces the functions of the heart and lungs, while these organs are excluded from circulation.
The procedure is not available in São Carlos. Still according to the press office, the athlete had “important improvement” after therapy.
“After stability, she was transferred to Hospital das Clínicas de São Paulo by air transport with intensive support,” the hospital said in a statement.
Luisa suffered severe polytrauma, with injuries to the right lung, fractures of several costal arches and right leg. She underwent surgery on Saturday and remained sedated and on mechanical ventilation until this Sunday.

The 2019 Pan American gold medalist was seriously injured in the accident, which happened on Estrada Municipal Abel Terrugi (SCA-329), in the Santa Eudóxia district.
The biker Naym José Sales, 27 years old who hit the back of the triathlete’s bike, was taken to the same hospital with confusion and moderately complex injuries.

According to information from the BO, the motorcyclist did not have a National Driving License (CNH). The motorcycle was seized by the Military Police. O g1 was unable to locate his family and defense until the last update of this report.
Luisa is on vacation and left early this Saturday to cycle with a group of cyclists. At the time of the accident, colleagues were away and did not see what happened. The track is simple and has no shoulder.

The accident was recorded as culpable bodily injury (unintentionally) driving a motor vehicle. The cause is still unknown and is being investigated by the Civil Police.
Sesi São Carlos, where the triathlete works, reported that it is providing full assistance to the athlete and her family.
