London police have arrested a second suspect after a road sign featuring a new work by the English street artist known under the pseudonym Banksy was stolen. Law enforcement officials reported on this on Sunday, December 24. The man is suspected of theft and damage to property, the police added, without specifying where the arrest took place.
The first suspect was arrested the day before. However, the young man was later released on bail until mid-March, when further proceedings in the case are expected, according to the AFP news agency.
The sign was removed in front of passers-by
Banksy usually posts photos of his new works on Instagram. On December 22, the artist published a photo on the social network with a road sign that prohibits traffic without stopping and is located in the southeast of the British capital. The sign featured several drones.
After just a few hours, the sign was gone. A video posted on social media shows a man on a rented bicycle removing the road sign from the post and running away. Another man held a bicycle.
The investigation in this case is ongoing. A new sign has already been placed at the intersection so as not to endanger road users.
