The man who was shot in the center of Geleen on Saturday evening and later died in hospital also comes from that Limburg city. The police reported on Sunday that the man was 55 years old.
25 detectives have been assigned to the case. The man was shot at the end of the afternoon on Saturday. The shooter fled and is still missing.
The first reports of the shooting on the Markt in Geleen came in around 5:20 p.m. But the incident may have occurred a little earlier, police said.
The seriously injured victim was resuscitated on the spot and taken to hospital, where he died of his injuries shortly afterwards.
The suspected perpetrator may have fled in a dark-colored car. The police believe it is possible that this car drove via the Rijksweg to the A76 motorway.
The police are looking for witnesses. And in particular to someone who was standing by a lamppost on the corner of the Market near the town hall shortly before the shooting.
This person may have seen the suspect’s getaway car. The police are also looking for people who may have taken photos, videos or dashcam images.
