Korean car manufacturer Hyundai, following the latest trends in the electric car market, is developing a new, cheaper electric model for its IONIQ model family – it could be called IONIQ2. If we look at Hyundai’s offering, they have a nominally cheaper electric car in the form of the Kona Electric. There is also the old Ioniq Electric, which is already a little used as a car, but so far something cheaper is missing in the new, modern IONIQ model family with the IONIQ5 and IONIQ6.
Electric models have won the hearts of customers and contributed to Hyundai’s sales figures around the world. Earlier, Andreas-Christoph Hofmann, vice president of marketing for Hyundai’s European division, said that such a model could be made, but now it is getting closer to the production line.
In his comment, he stated that all manufacturers aim to create a budget-class machine for around 20-25 thousand euros, but offering competitive availability. This budget Hyundai electric model is expected to offer a reasonable range on a single charge, while a new platform will help reduce production costs.
In terms of costs, cheaper electric cars with acceptable performance and driving distance reserve are currently one of the biggest shortages in the electric car market – there are enough cars worth 40, 50, 60 thousand euros and even more expensive, but the high prices are one of the reasons that discourage people from buying such a car – people simply cannot afford it. Such budget-class cars, which are already being developed by many manufacturers, could turn the situation for the better.
