(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Young-shin = Prime Minister Han Deok-soo visited the Shinshin Wedding Hall in Masan Happo-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeongsangnam-do on Christmas Eve, the 24th, and performed a ‘surprise officiating’ for the couple getting married.

Shinsin Wedding Hall is famous for holding free weddings for those in need for over 50 years until its founder, the late Baek Nak-sam, passed away last April. His son, Baeknam Moon, is serving as the second representative and carrying on the deceased’s wishes.

Prime Minister Han said in a post on Facebook that day, “After CEO Baek left, I heard that his wife and son decided to continue the deceased’s legacy, and I thought that I would like to contribute even a little when I have time.” He added, “Today is Christmas Eve. “We had a connection,” he said.

Prime Minister Han decided to officiate when he heard that there was a couple who had lived together for 26 years and was holding a small wedding at Shinsin Wedding Hall that day.

It is said that the couple and their families were not informed in advance that Prime Minister Han would officiate for fear that the couple might feel burdened.

When Prime Minister Han arrived before the ceremony and said, “I will be the officiant today,” the couple and their entire family were surprised and delighted.

In his officiating address, Prime Minister Han said, “Although there were many difficult times, you deserve to be proud of the fact that you have raised your children well and lived a happy family. As you have done so far, let us continue to rely on each other and live long until your gray hair grows out.” He said.

When Prime Minister Han said the slogan, “Bride and groom, smile. Kimchi! Tuna! Saury!”, which CEO Baek had shouted out when taking commemorative photos at free weddings during his lifetime, laughter came from all over the wedding hall.

Prime Minister Han said, “Shinshin Wedding Hall is a place where people who have lived a hard life and are gray without even a single photo in a wedding dress can achieve their deepest dreams, and the late CEO Baek devoted his life to making that dream come true.” He added, “The walls of the wedding hall are lined up. “I looked at each and every photo of the bride and groom attached,” he wrote.

He continued, “Among all loves, the most heartbreaking love is an old love,” and “It was heartbreaking to see people who worked hard despite difficult circumstances and endured all kinds of ups and downs, holding the ceremony with frosty heads.”

As Prime Minister Han left the wedding hall after officiating, he encouraged Baek’s wife, Choi Pil-soon, and his son, current CEO Baek Nam-moon, saying, “Thank you for carrying on your father’s will.”
