Erik Van Looy, known Antwerp fan, has spoken candidly about his divorce and the relationship with his ex-wife.
“I was married to my ex for 21 years, but I made mistakes, I disappointed her and I regret it,” he says in an interview with Het Laatste Nieuws. He admits that he probably caused the divorce himself by thinking the grass was greener on the other side.
Van Looy explained that his ambition to break through in America also played a role in the breakdown of his marriage. “That meant I was in Los Angeles six months a year and something like that is not good for a relationship,” he says. These long periods of absence led to a gradual estrangement between the couple, exacerbated by the time gaps that made communication difficult.
Despite the divorce, Van Looy remains on good terms with his ex-wife. “I took her to work this morning by car,” he shares, indicating that they still maintain a friendly relationship.
