Kenan Yildiz gave himself a present the day before Christmas Eve: The offensive talent from Regensburg scored his first goal after twelve minutes of play in his starting eleven debut in Serie A. The 18-year-old had already contributed a remarkable goal to Turkey’s 3-2 win in Berlin in the international match against his native Germany in November. He also showed off his technical skills against Frosinone on matchday 17 of the top Italian league and scored to give Juventus Turin the lead in the newly promoted team.
After a pass from ex-Frankfurt player Filip Kostić, Yildiz beats three opponents on the left wing, moves inwards and finishes with a hard right-footed shot into the near corner – no chance for Frosinone goalkeeper Stefano Turati. The promoted side managed to equalize in the second half before top striker Dušan Vlahović ensured the Bianconeri won 2-1 in the final phase. Juventus Turin is staying close to the currently extremely strong league leaders Inter Milan – minimalist as ever: The Old Lady has been unbeaten for twelve league games, with nine narrow victories, eight of them with a difference of one goal each.
Inter also did their duty on matchday 17, celebrating a 2-0 home win against Lecce and Landshut defender Marin Pongračić. Incidentally, the opening goal for the leaders was scored by a German U21 national player: central defender Yann Bisseck.
Moving to Italy “was the best decision,” says his mother
Meanwhile, Kenan Yildiz has established himself in the Juventus professional squad. He had already made six short appearances in this Serie A season before making his starting eleven debut against Frosinone. It’s not just Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri who predicts a great future for the 18-year-old.
The son of a German and a Turkish father was trained in FC Bayern’s youth team for ten years before moving to the Italian record champions in the summer of 2022 when his contract expired. “Of course there was a bit of fear that he might not feel well. But we are there, we support him, he can concentrate on his football – and it was the best decision we could have made,” said his mother Beate Hackl-Yildiz recently talked about moving to Italy.
By the way, the football year is not yet over for Juventus Turin. On December 30th, the second-placed team will face José Mourinho and AS Roma.
