GORINCHEM/REGION • In the ‘pool of death’, defending champion GJS started the indoor football tournament for the Proxsys Cup on Saturday evening with a loss. Fellow city SVW struck 4-1 in front of about 1,000 spectators.
SVW, also one of the favorites in advance, disappointed last year, but this time immediately showed on the opening evening that it wanted to compete for the prizes. With some beautifully played goals, the stripes brought their rival to their knees. Goalscorers: Hicham Farhou (2x), Fadelme Elonga and Abdus Zencirkiran. With the score 0-2, Sereno Latuhihin scored against.
This result will make it very difficult for GJS to reach the quarter-finals after last year’s success.
In the same group, LRC Leerdam was much too strong for SteDoCo, which played with players from the second team. After a halftime score of 4-0, there was a 5-0 final score on the scoreboard in De Oosterbliek. Remon van Soest scored twice. The other goals came from Furkan Cetin, Timo Lutters and Merlijn van den Berg.
Pool B
Hardinxveld was unable to shake off Leerdam Sport’55 in group B. In fact, the Leerdam team took a 0-2 lead thanks to Brennan Bierie (2x). In the second half, Leerdam Sport mainly held back and the score was equalized by goals from Owen Muller and Jesper Buist.
Kozaks Boys took the lead in this group by leaving fellow local Dussense Boys without a chance. Even without Werkendam selection players, the difference was far too big: 8-1. Gerard van den Adel and Bruno Romijn were both accurate three times. Only in the closing seconds did Lars Branderhorst save Dussen’s honor.
Pool C
SVS’65 won the derby against Vuren in group C 3-1. Christiaan Perrier and Fitim Meha scored the Spijkse goals and Vuren was also credited with an own goal. Brett van Vlaanderen returned the favor on behalf of Vuren, where goalkeeper Tim Ritmeester excelled.
Asperen and Unitas kept pace before halftime (0-0), but in the second half Shaquille Codrington (2x) and Naser el Mousati made the difference: 0-3.
