Postal Service on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in the United States

One of the 11 federal holidays in the United States is December 25, also known as Christmas Day. It is usually a time to be with family or in the company of friends, and sending gifts becomes a tradition year after year.

But, precisely because it is an official holiday, people wonder if post offices work to send gifts.

Let’s get something straight: The United States government recognizes Christmas Day as a national holiday. Therefore, most federal employees are entitled to paid time off.

The truth is that state and private institutions such as companies, banks, schools, the stock market, post offices and some supermarkets remain closed during official holidays.

All this despite the fact that by law, only government institutions (federal) are required to close during holidays.

How will post offices and parcel services work on these dates?

The United States Postal Service (USPS) reported that on Sunday, December 24, or Christmas Eve, local post offices will be closed. Mail will not be picked up in blue collection boxes and regular mail will not be delivered.

However, Priority Mail Express will be delivered only to limited locations and an additional fee will apply for those deliveries. In the meantime, this email will work like Christmas Eve on Christmas Day.

Similarly, DHL pick-up and delivery services will operate until 4:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Their offices will be closed on December 25 and none of their usual mail services will be operational.

On the other hand, Fedex offices will remain closed during December 24 and 25, and will only provide specific services, such as FedEx Custom Critical.

In the case of UPS offices, they will remain closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Therefore, only UPS Express Critical will be available, depending on the company holiday calendar.
