A new Sony patent appears to confirm rumors of DLSS-style upscaling technology that could be integrated into the PS5 Pro and which would give the new model of the console a significant performance advantage over the current version.
A few days ago, renowned journalist Jeff Grubb reported that, according to his sources, the PS5 Pro will arrive in 2024 and will have proprietary hardware solutions that will allow higher resolution using machine learning and faster hardware support for ray tracing.
Well, a patent filed by a Japanese company accurately illustrates the functioning of a DLSS-style technology that writes Asset Aware Data (AAD) to the command buffer and Level of Detail (LOD) data to system memory, making it so the GPU uses it for rendering frames according to CPU requirements.
While this is just speculation at this point as there are obviously no exact references, the Sony document appears to outline how the PS5 Pro could handle its new and important features.
The patent is also attributed to Mark Cerny himself: it seems that the system architect of the PS4 and PS5 is behind this decision. We’ll see in the coming months whether the connection between these schemes and the latest leaks is real.
