Radio Al Madina is a musical format of the 360° program at the Thalia Theater, which shines its spotlight on the Cultures of modern urban society throws. Here we listen to the sounds and melodies, the maqams of foreign and familiar homes, the ‘New German music‘. Radio Al Madina invites you to listen, to dance, to be happy or sad, live in the night shelter or as a playlist in your kitchen at home. In the ninth edition we will experience a Hamburg premiere, a concert by the duo “SHARAKE” by Yazan Alsabbagh & Saleh Katbeh.

“Shark: A melodious bridge between East and West, between tradition and innovation. This band, founded by two Syrian virtuososmasters the interaction oriental melodies by clarinet and Oud with the pulsating rhythms of the melodic techno. Their performances are a fascinating journey through different cultures, captivating audiences with the fusion of traditional and modern sounds. This is complemented by heartfelt vocal interludes in different languages. Sharake’s music not only transcends geographical boundaries, but also touches the hearts of global listeners by celebrating the beauty of diversity.”

At RADIO AL MADINA we dedicate non-European and diasporic music and pop cultures a regular listening session in the night shelter. We warmly invite you to immerse yourself in the cosmos and the works of inspiring musicians, singers, composers and producers from yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Afterwards we look forward to the after-show party Disco Al Madina with DJ Breakdnz, a DJ & music curator from Hamburg, who in his sets combines traditional music from the SWANA region, among others, with modern beats that are guaranteed to get your hips swinging.
