“Life is made of chance. And this is one of them. » It was while returning from a trip to New York and the performance of a friend, Amanda Jacobs, at Carnegie Hall, that choir director Isabelle Ginet-Besnard was contacted by this same hall.
Or rather by a production company, which is organizing the celebration of Karl Jenkins’ 80th birthday, on January 15, 2024… At Carnegie Hall, in the Manhattan district.
500 singers from several countries
This eclectic contemporary musician has composed an original work, including one Stabat Mater. It is also the interpretation of the Malouine musical mosaic choir (MMM), directed by Isabelle Ginet-Besnard for twelve years, that the production company spotted on YouTube. “It was just a work session, but they enjoyed it. Usually there are auditions but not for us, thanks to this recording. »
Of the forty MMM singers, twelve will fly to New York on January 11, 2024. There they will find more than 500 singers from the United States, Canada, Germany, Great Britain and the France, which MMM will represent. They will sing, among other things, famous pieces by the composer.
Rehearsals for three days
“We couldn’t refuse. But you have to know how to decipher well, be comfortable and in good physical condition. We’re going to rehearse for three days, and walk a lot. » This trip also has a cost, because nothing is covered by the organizers. “Each singer finances it. But it will be fabulous and it’s a great reward. »
Another coincidence. “We will give five concerts from Stabat Mater, by Karl Jenkins, in the region this year. And it was planned for a long time. »
