Erfurt Farmers in Thuringia will receive almost 200 million euros from the EU before the turn of the year. This was announced by the Thuringian Agriculture Minister Susanna Karawanskij.

Farmers in Thuringia will receive EU money before the end of the year. Agriculture Minister Susanna Karawanskij (Left) announced this on Friday. This involves a total of 200 million euros for around 3,800 agricultural businesses. To do this, the companies would have to meet many requirements, including requirements for environmental, nature conservation and animal protection in sustainable land management. “The payment before the end of the year gives agricultural businesses financial planning security for the next growing year,” said Karawanskij. The turn of the year is associated with significant expenses for farmers. It’s about leases, loans, seeds or insurance.

180 million euros in EU direct payments will be paid out for the first time this year according to new rules. This has posed major challenges for agricultural businesses and administration, said Karawanskij’s ministry. Many direct payments funds would be used for voluntary organic schemes as farmers became more committed to biodiversity in arable farming.

Behind the scenes of politics – opinionated, exclusive, relevant.

2,000 agricultural businesses will receive a total of 20 million euros as support for the compensation allowance. The allowance goes to farmers who cultivate fields or grassland in naturally unfavorable locations and can therefore only achieve lower yields. At the same time, such areas have a special ecological value as species-rich biotopes, as it was said.
