EMPOLI (ITALPRESS) – Lazio seeks and finds redemption in the championship by beating Empoli 2-0 at the Castellani on the 17th matchday of Serie A. Thanks to Guendouzi’s opening goal and Zaccagni’s second goal in the second half, the Biancocelesti can celebrate Christmas by chasing away the ghosts of the last period and climbing up the rankings, which instead smile less and less at the Tuscans. On the shields, to tell the truth, in addition to the two scorers, there is the Biancoceleste goalkeeper Provedel, author of important interventions. Lazio’s lead is lightning-fast, arriving in the 8th minute with an insistent action: Luis Alberto and Zaccagni have to try, both countered, before Guendouzi scores the 0-1 and his first goal of the championship. Luck, however, doesn’t seem to be on Lazio’s side, who in three minutes lose first Immobile and then Luis Alberto to injury: the attacker requests a substitution due to a muscular problem, the Spaniard echoes his opinion.
Empoli knows how to take advantage of their opponents’ difficult moment and comes close to equalizing with three clear chances. Bastoni tries on a free kick, Grassi and Maldini put Provedel’s reflexes to the test.
Andreazzoli’s team starts again in the second half from the good things they showed at the end of the first half. In fact, after five minutes it took a miraculous save from Provedel, following Cambiaghi’s powerful shot, to deny the Tuscans a draw again. They also deserve it for the many opportunities created. Provedel gets his gloves dirty again on Maldini and Fazzini. But Lazio are hungry and strike at the home team’s best moment. In the 67th minute Guendouzi steals the ball from Baldanzi and launches Zaccagni, who shoots once or twice. The third is the good one to beat Caprile and seal the Biancoceleste’s 0-2. Empoli were punished excessively given their excellent performance, although in the final Caprile acted as a superhero to thwart Castellanos’ trio. Lazio wins and catches their breath while Empoli increasingly lacks oxygen.
