On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Taratata, France 2 has decided to offer a documentary this Friday, December 22 evening to retrace the history of the channel’s emblematic musical program. Nagui explains in particular the origin of his legendary theme song and the little scare he had during its creation.
The show, which was born in a kitchen, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. For the occasion, France 2 has decided to offer this Friday, December 22, a documentary which traces the history of Taratata. France Télévision presents the documentary that we will have the opportunity to see this evening. “This documentary highlights the historical team made up of Nagui, its creator, Marie Prycko, programmer, Gérard Pullicino, the director, and Jean-Philippe Bourdon, the director of photography. They will make you relive the creation, the putting on orbit of the show, the first successes, but also the years of stopping and popular and artistic mobilization”. Among the many confidences and little secrets, Nagui notably explained the origin of his credits and the little scare he had during its creation.
“Jean-Jacques left his family skiing and remade the credits”
From the outset, the host of Do not forget the lyrics admitted: “The way the credits were done, it’s very, very, very weird”. Then to ensure that“Only a guy like Goldman can accept that”. “I ask him if he can do a theme song, he says to me: ‘I’ve never done that’. Exactly, it’s now or never. And he sends me at the time, it was a DAT cassette, and I listen to the cassette, it was obviously good, it was Goldman but it wasn’t the credits”, first regretting Nagui. Mélanie Page’s husband then explained: “I start telling him I want it to start like a symphony orchestra tuning up, a guitar riff like in When the music is good, immediate and simple references. Then, I tell him ‘it’s three notes’, something where you immediately understand where you are and which sounds a bit rock”.
The flagship presenter of France Télévisions then reported: “He said to me: ‘Okay, I’ll do that for you in January’. And I said to him: ‘Ah no, no, no, we’re shooting in 10 days…’ The shoot was on January 8, and there we were right in Christmas vacation. He said to me: ‘No, I’m skiing with my family'”. The generic then compromised? Nay! “And Jean-Jacques left his family skiing and returned to Paris, replayed the credits. I received a cassette a few days later, and it’s exactly the same one that has been the same for 30 years,” Nagui proudly indicated.
Another curiosity? “To get to the end of the credits story, years later he calls me, saying: ‘I’m in a studio, I’m recording an album, the only gimmick that comes to mind for the guitar is Taratata’s, do I have the right to use it?'”, said the host. Surprised by this request which he does not understand very well, Nagui reminds him that he has the right since it was Jean-Jacques Goldman himself who created it. “He says to me: ‘No, I gave it to you’. I then say: ‘Jean-Jacques, thank you but obviously, you do what you want’. And the gimmick comes on Rougean album which is even more special because it is around the Red Army Choirs that his dad listened to when he was a child, therefore with a meaning which is even more powerful”, he concluded.
