Sony Announces New Licensing Agreement with Discovery to Prevent Removal of Content from Playstation Store

The news that customers who previously bought series and movies from Discovery via the Playstation store would lose access to the content at the turn of the year led to much uproar and criticism of the company. Much of the criticism was about poor communication: Sony refused to answer questions from the press and the only message to customers was that the content is going away due to licensing agreements.

Now, as suddenly as the original news, Sony announces that the company has entered into a new licensing agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery and no content will disappear from users’ accounts after December 31st.

– Due to updated licensing conditions, the removal of content from Discovery scheduled for December 31, 2023 will not take place. We appreciate your continued support and feedback, Sony writes in a short update on that page who first revealed that the content would disappear.

According to Gamesindustry.biz, the new agreement is valid for at least 30 months.
