Baritone Nauris Indzeris celebrates 50th birthday with concert and reflections on career and family

“When my parents celebrated 50 years, it seemed that they were “ultimate grandparents”. I myself don’t think that much about my age, because I feel good!” says baritone Nauris Indzeris. On December 14, he celebrated his 50th birthday!

The anniversary must be celebrated!

“I’m not one of those people who sits down at the table, uncorks a bottle of wine and celebrates on his birthday. The opportunity to be on stage with reliable and cool colleagues and give joy to others gives me satisfaction,” says Nauris Indzeris, who has been active in the field of professional music for almost 25 years, both as an opera singer, a chamber singer, and a vocal pedagogue in the youth choir “Voices”.

Similar to several previous years, this year the jubilee was on stage right on his birthday, only this time it was not one of the musical projects in which he participates, but Naura Indzer’s 50th anniversary concert organized by the Classical Music Guild “Euterpe” at RKTMC “Maza gilde” In the great hall.

“It was as usual, only grander,” he happily says, revealing that the idea for such an anniversary concert belongs to two of his stage colleagues – opera singer Anta Jankovski and concertmaster Helena Laukman. It was they who approached the jubilee’s stage partners, with whom he has developed the closest and most fruitful cooperation in recent years, and no one refused.

With the most beautiful stage partners

Nauris Indzeris reveals that his anniversary concert featured opera arias and duets, as well as fragments from the most beautiful zarzuelas and operettas.

“I am really happy for the opportunity to celebrate such a significant birthday in music together with my most reliable and beautiful stage partners, as well as with the talented tenor of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet (LNOB), Artjomas Safronov. I am also honored with an excellent composition of orchestra musicians, with whom very successful and ambitious French and Spanish music programs have been staged together,” says Nauris Indzeris.

A lot has been done

“I don’t have time to sit and think about what fifty years means to me, but if I think about it a bit, I have to conclude that a lot has been accomplished,” says the jubilee.

He received his musical education at Jāzeps Mediņš Riga Music College in the class of Laila Grietēna and Jāzeps Vītolas Latvian Academy of Music assoc. prof. Bruno in Egle’s class. He increased his knowledge in master classes in Austria and Italy, and his professional life was connected with both LNOB and the Klaipeda State Musical Theatre. The singer has participated in several Sigulda Opera Music Festivals, as well as regularly cooperates with the concert organization “Latvijas koncerti”, the children’s vocal studio “Knīpas un knauķi”, the Cēsi Wind Orchestra, the Operetta Theater, where he has sung the main roles in several wonderful productions, as well as participated in many beautiful classical music performances. in concert programs created by the “Euterpe” guild.

Was young and crazy

“When my parents celebrated 50 years, it seemed that they were “ultimate grandparents”. I don’t think much about my years because – I feel good! Maybe because my work is related to young people, leading the vocal ensemble of the Maritime School of Riga Technical University Latvian Maritime Academy (RTU LJA), whose composition has been completed this year, cheerful and demanding. I can’t fall out of the “mainstream”, I have to go with the new trends,” says the jubilee, admitting that just looking at his children – Jurgis is 22, Justine 20 years old – he realizes that he is older than them.

When he was their age and even much younger, Nauris used to party a lot, but mainly at concerts. It all started already at Pionieru House in the hometown of Gulbene – together with Aldi Załuksni (known by the nickname DJ Midis) and Ralf Ruben (later – the leader of the project “Tranzits”), whose group name, by the way, comes from Naura’s song “Tranzits”.

“When I play music in a dance music group” 5. slag», we were young and crazy. With our enthusiasm and zeal, we wanted to blow up – to prove that the “duck pond” of the Latvian music world has been formed, and that’s enough for the youth,” Nauris remembers with a smile, reminding that “5. slag” won an award at the Madonna festival “Mustard and honey” in 1995 and later recorded as many as three albums.

“We started together with “Iron Wolf” and “Prāta vētra”, they are our peers,” Nauris recalls, adding that later, when he was already studying at the vocal department of Jāzeps Mediņš Riga College of Music, it was difficult to connect everything. To put it more correctly, jumping out and having fun at the concerts, which were mainly on the Latgale side on weekends and where, as Nauris says, the concertgoers literally kicked the doors down, it was difficult to concentrate on studying.

So that moose do not gnaw Christmas trees in the forest

Today, Nauris is actively playing music, he has just recorded the vocal chamber music album “Dreams” together with the pianist Helena Laukmanis (which can be purchased for a donation on the evening of the anniversary concert), and his concert schedule is quite busy.

After his anniversary concert, the singer will start preparing for the New Year’s concerts of the Operetta Theater «La Belle Epoque», which are expected on December 25 and 28 at 19:00 in Riga, VEF Culture Palace. On the other hand, on December 26 at 3 p.m., he will sing on the stage of the Small Hall of Dzintari concert hall, where a concert for the family “Chocolate Fairy” is expected as part of the Christmas festival.

“After the New Year, there will be new projects again. Life continues to spin, nothing stops, the main thing is not to fall into a routine,» says the charismatic stage artist, hoping that as a freelance artist it does not really threaten him.

On his birthday, wish the jubilee that his fellow human beings have good health, that everyone stays on their feet and that everything is cool.

“For myself? So that the moose in the forest do not gnaw our Christmas trees, so that the beasts of the forest do not eat the young trees,” he says and explains that together with his brother, they have cleaned up the property left by their father-in-law near Straupe, planted Christmas trees and pine trees. He now spends his free time there. But, thinking about what is happening in the world, Nauris for all of us, so that the world does not stop spinning and people do not turn into beasts.
