“The Year with the Royal Family” in Sweden and Princess Madeleine’s Absence Explained

Like Norwegians, Swedish TV viewers tend to sit down in front of the screen to see how the last year of the royal family has been. In Sweden, the program is called “The Year with the Royal Family”.

Absent

This year’s edition has already appeared on TV, and shows everything from Crown Princess Victoria (46) and Prince Daniel’s (50) trip to Australia and Prince Carl Philip’s (44) and Princess Sofia’s (39) everyday life.

One who, however, cannot be seen in the programme, is Princess Madeleine (41) and her husband, Chris O’Neill (49).

Now the Swedish website can Happened reveal why.

In an e-mail, the project manager for “The year with the royal family”, Hannah Cederberg, writes that they have tried to get “Madde” into the programme.

Struggling to sell

“SVT has on several occasions sent interview requests to Princess Madeleine and Chris O’Neill, but the court has refused. We hope to get interviews with the princess family next year, if they then move to Sweden again,” the email says.

It was earlier in 2023 that the news came that Princess Madeleine and the rest of the family would move back home to Sweden after several years abroad.

The family has recently struggled to sell their house in Florida, and the move home to Sweden has been postponed. In other words, it is not known when the princess will return to her homeland permanently.
