Princess Anne speaks out in new BBC film about Queen Elizabeth II’s death at Balmoral

“I think she felt that things would be more difficult if she died at Balmoral,” the princess said in the BBC film about the year in which King Charles III was crowned.

She added to the film, which is expected to be shown on December 26: “We tried to convince her that this should not be an issue to be decided upon.”

Queen Elizabeth II, who held the British throne for 70 years, a record for the British monarchy, died on September 8, 2022 at Balmoral Castle, Scotland.

During the last stage of her life, the Queen resided inside Windsor Castle near London, but she used to spend the late summer at Balmoral, where she would ride horses and the family would go hunting, while she would spend Christmas at Sandringham in eastern England.

After the Queen’s coffin was displayed to the public in St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh, it was transported to London in a military plane.

It was then displayed at Westminster Hall until the funeral, which took place on 19 September.

In the documentary, Princess Anne recalls the strange feeling of “relief” she felt when the crown was removed from the casket and “this responsibility passed” to the new King, Charles III.
