Parliament Security Breach: Rahul Gandhi Claims BJP MPs Ran Away, Mass Suspension of Opposition Legislators

Parliament security breach: When there was a security breach in Lok Sabha on December 13, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said that all the BJP MPs ran away. Rahul Gandhi said this while speaking at the Indian opposition group’s protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. “BJP MPs ran away in fear during the attack,” he quipped. “In this incident, there is a question of breach of security. But why they protested in this way is another question. The answer is unemployment in the country,” added Rahul Gandhi.

The agitation in Parliament in the wake of the security breach led to mass suspensions of opposition legislators was the reason. He also highlighted the controversy over Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee’s impersonation of Rajya Sabha Chairman and Deputy Speaker Jagdeep Dhankar. “The media did not talk about unemployment in the country. But the media talked about Rahul Gandhi’s video of suspended MPs sitting outside Parliament,” the Congress leader said.

The leaders of the India Bloc organized a protest in the name of ‘Save Democracy’ at Jantar Mantar today. Prominent opposition leaders including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, NCP President Sharad Pawar and CPI-M’s Sitaram Yechury took part in the protest, protesting the suspension of 146 opposition MPs during the winter session of Parliament. Kharge called for a united fight against the government’s efforts to silence the opposition. He also lashed out at Dhankar for raising the caste issue over his impersonation of Kalyan Banerjee.

“Everyone has the right to speak under our constitution. We are not even given a chance to read it when a notice is issued in Parliament. Dhankhar is a constitutional office bearer. You are talking about caste. Shall I say that the BJP government is not allowing a Dalit to speak? You cannot take away our right to speak,” Kharge said. A total of 146 MPs were suspended demanding a statement from Union Minister Amit Shah on the security lapses in both houses and allegedly disrupting the proceedings. On Thursday morning, the MPs marched from the Parliament building to Vijay Chowk to protest the suspension of the MPs.
