A big name in football recounted an absolutely surreal scene.
In a very civilized era, certain anecdotes can still stand out. Pascal Olmeta was one of those special characters, whose temperament and deviations were often excused at a time when folklore was king. The former goalkeeper French international fully assumes his fiery character and his excesses of vulgarity. In an interview with So Foot, he delivered a surrealist anecdote.
An emblematic figure of the Sporting Club de Bastia, the Corsican Olmeta had played alongside some big names in world football. Among these was a certain Roger Milla. Twice-time African Ballon d’Or winner, the former Cameroonian striker is still considered one of the continent’s greatest legends today. But on the Isle of Beauty, he had to suffer the wrath of Olmeta’s character.
“He broke my balls twice”
The former goalkeeper says in an interview with So Foot: “ The elders had to shower first. One day, I arrive, I undress, I go there. And Roger Milla says to me: ‘oh kid’ (he whistles like ‘get out’). We shout at each other, and he wasn’t afraid so bam, there we go, we’re fighting. We no longer speak to each other until a chat where we still argue. I wait for him in the hallway, in front of his room, and the same thing, he doesn’t let up so I jump on him and I hurt him so much that in the evening, he’s gone! Roger, he was tired… Very good player, but very temperamental. He broke my balls twice. Twice too many. »
