Students of the Ural Federal University (UrFU) received letters (available at URA.RU) due to the rise in the incidence of whooping cough in the region. The administration of the educational institution asks students to observe the necessary preventive measures. University students told URA.RU about this.
“We have received letters in the mail informing us about the increase in infection in the region. The message also reminds about measures to prevent whooping cough. For example, they encourage people to wear masks, get vaccinated, ventilate rooms, carry out wet cleaning with disinfectants, and if you have a prolonged cough, go to the doctor,” university students share.
The editors of URA.RU contacted the press service of UrFU for comment. “This is a regular newsletter from the health department. There were such cases for measles and influenza,” the university said.
In 2023 in the Sverdlovsk region, epidemiologists note increase in the incidence of whooping cough. The rise in incidence is explained by the cyclical nature of the epidemic process. Once every 3-4 years doctors are seeing growth number of sick people. The incidence rate for 10 months of 2023 reached 26.6 per 100 thousand population, which is 3.6 times higher than the incidence rate of the “pre-Covid period” (2015-2019).
