Japan’s National Center for Art Research Launches Artist Support Program: Funding for International Art Exhibitions featuring Japanese Artists

Japan’s National Center for Art Research (NCAR) is launching the “Artist Support Program,” which provides funding to support art exhibitions such as international biennials and triennials, with the requirement that they allow Japanese artists to participate. , who, through their works of art, contribute to giving recognition to contemporary Japanese art around the world.

The program offers partial or full financial support to organizers of art exhibitions with great international recognition, which feature the participation of Japanese artists (including naturalized and deceased artists). Financial support per artist of 3.5 million Japanese yen, and a maximum of 7 million yen if several Japanese artists participate in the same exhibition.

The call to participate in this first version of the Program will be open until January 31, 2024. Eligible exhibitions must have wide recognition in the world and must begin after June 2024 and end before May 31, 2025.
