Before the away meeting with Barcelona, Rosengård was determined to win to have a chance of advancing to the playoffs. Not the easiest of tasks, as it was a 6-0 loss against the reigning CL champions with 6-0 in Malmö.
And it was overrun again in Spain.
Barcelona pressed from the start and took the lead after just over a quarter of an hour. Keira Walsh finished inside the penalty area and via a Rosengård player slid the ball in behind Angel Mukasa.
The home team in Spain was dominating the game and with ten minutes to break it was 2-0. Aitana Bonmati heeled a pass to Caroline Graham Hansen, who was able to put the ball into the net.
The score was 2-0 at the break.
Ten minutes into the match’s second act, it narrowed again. Salma Paralluelo ran onto a deep ball and got a free position against Mukasa. The forward managed that chance, 3-0.
It didn’t end there. In the 60th minute, Paralluelo was in front again and headed in a cross from the left.
Barcelona also made it 5-0 in the 73rd minute through Clàudia Pina and just a minute later Marta Torrejon headed in 6-0. In the final minutes, Rosengård’s Jessica Wik also responded with a deadly own goal to make it 7-0, which was also the final result.
Barcelona fired 40 shots in the match, of which 21 hit the target. After the four losses, Rosengård is the team that has not conceded the most goals in the Champions League group stage so far.
7-0 means that Rosengård is already out of the Champions League with two rounds to go. Barcelona tops the group on twelve points and is ready for promotion, Benfica is second on seven points and Eintracht Frankfurt is third on four points.
