Severe Storm Hits Norway: Cancelled Flights, Closed Roads, and Other Consequences

It is already blowing well on the coast from Hordaland to Agder and it is having consequences in several areas.

Equinor reports that they are canceling all helicopter departures to and from Stavanger airport for the rest of the day, flight departures are canceled and Color Line will not sail to or from Denmark today.

Because there may be very strong gusts of wind along the coast today. From 12 o’clock onwards, a full and strong storm is expected. Wind gusts can have hurricane force.

The Norwegian Meteorological Institute has issued an orange warning.

– It is a serious situation, and one expects a number of consequences, among other things, in traffic and on the sea as a result of this. The danger warning ends at midnight, says state meteorologist Julie Solsvik Vågane.

Three have knocked over the road

– It will be strongest on the coast, but the north-west can move quite well across the country as well, so there are several people who must be prepared for a good deal of wind today, says Solsvik Vågane.

  • Ry county: In Ryfylke in Rogaland, the wind has picked up and the Norwegian Public Roads Administration receives many reports of trees and bushes that have fallen onto the road. They ask people to be careful.
  • Rv 13: There has also been a small rock slide across the road in Suldal, between Helganes bridge and Suldalsporten, informs the police at X. The slide covers large parts of the road.
  • The Danish boat: Fjordline reports the following on its website: «The bad weather unfortunately affects our sailing trip with Bergensfjord and Stavangerfjord on 21 – 22 December.” Color Line has everything canceled several flights (external link) between Kristiansand and Hirtshals and Larvik and Hirtshals.
  • The Boknafjord association: In Rogaland, Fjord1 has completely changed the ferry route that goes across the Boknafjorden. The ferries will leave from Hanasand in Randaberg, instead of Mortavika in Stavanger.
