Violent Fight at Croix d’Argent College in Montpellier: Former Students Armed with Knives Enter the School

A violent fight broke out this Tuesday, December 19 at the Croix d’Argent college in Montpellier, in Hérault, involving two former students who entered the establishment, armed with a knife. A violent altercation broke out this Tuesday, December 19 within the walls of the Croix d’Argent college in Montpellier, in Hérault, involving two individuals from outside the establishment. Threats with knives were made but there were no injuries to report, according to the rectorate of the academy.

It all started from a fight between two college students.

“A fight broke out between two students yesterday and one of them ended up on the ground, explains Sophie Béjean, rector of the Montpellier Academy. Several comrades were then called for reinforcement, as well as two former students of the establishment who forced entry, one of whom was armed with a knife. It was then that a teacher intervened, a second surrounded the attacker and the assistant principal was able to grab his weapon. Fortunately, the police intervened quickly and arrested the two former students.”

The emotion remained very strong this Wednesday morning, but the staff showed great composure.

The college teachers exercised their right to withdraw and classes were canceled this Wednesday morning. The opening of a listening cell, with a psychologist and a social worker, is planned for Thursday, as well as a time for discussion with the teaching team the next day.

The rectorate recalls that the Croix d’Argent college welcomes a fragile student population. In 2022, the success rate of its students for the college certificate was 74%, compared to a national average of 87.5%.

Last February, teachers, staff and parents had already alerted the academy inspectorate to the deterioration of the situation following repeated violence, denouncing a glaring lack of resources. The establishment has grown from 500 to almost 800 students in 10 years.
