Romania helped Ukraine survive the Polish blockade of agricultural exports, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said during his annual press conference, Ziare news site reported, citing Interfax.

“Thank God, intelligent Romania and President Klaus Iohannis appeared and purely and simply helped me. He helped our farmers to survive. And he had so many difficulties, there were protests. I think he showed the behavior of a strong man who says: To Values come first, then comes the price,” Zelensky said at a press conference yesterday.

“You cannot politicize the issue of grain when everything is blocked,” Zelenskiy emphasized, referring to Poland and the decisions of the previous conservative government to ban Ukrainian grain imports. “From April to September it was very difficult, we lost hundreds of millions of dollars, we lost part of the harvest, we lost every day. And every day our farmers asked me: Our fields are mined, how can we get at least something?” Zelensky said.

A message published on the website of the Ukrainian presidency also stated that the head of state thanked Romania for its support to Ukraine and for helping Ukrainian farmers to survive.

“Poland lost from a financial point of view. We built a railway corridor through Moldova and Romania. We built a corridor through the Black Sea,” Zelensky also pointed out, according to the press release.

At the same time, the Ukrainian leader noted that a new government had been formed in Warsaw after the elections, which could help resolve the situation along the border, where border crossings are currently blocked due to a protest by Polish truck drivers who complain about what they say is unfair competition from side of their Ukrainian counterparts.

Digi 24 TV reminds that the Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmykhal recently stated that 70 percent of the grain exported from Ukraine currently passes through Romania, BTA reported.

“Our partnership is extensive and wide-ranging. We appreciate the measures taken by Romania in terms of financial aspects, sanctions. Cooperation in the logistics part is particularly important, we provide a transport corridor for Ukraine’s exports. At the moment, 70 percent of our exports pass through Romania. So Ukraine continues to be the guarantor of global food security,” the Ukrainian Prime Minister said earlier this month in a video message to the participants of the international conference “Recovery of Ukraine and the Strategic Role of Romania” organized in the Romanian resort of Sinaia.
