The German government this week stopped financing the purchase of electric cars with a so-called environmental bonus, but the announcement was met with an almost lightning-quick reaction from a number of major carmakers.
According to the German media, the government’s support measures expired on Sunday night, but already on Monday morning, the Stellantis concern, which offers 32 electric drive models, announced that it guarantees an environmental bonus for private customers.
And that was just the beginning, because until today (Wednesday, December 20) Mercedes, Smart, Toyota, Subaru, Mazda, Tesla, Nissan, Volkswagen, Hyundai, MG, BYD, etc. manufacturers have also announced similar measures.
Bonuses offered by manufacturers are different and differ both in amount and terms. For example, Stellantis guarantees it in the current amount, so up to 4,500 euros, which together with the manufacturer’s share and VAT amounts to 7,178 euros. However, Stellantis does not indicate the exact amount of the compensation in his press release. True, this generous offer is valid until 31.12.2023.
For cars that have already been ordered and will be registered only after the turn of the year, the group guarantees the reduced environmental premium planned for 2024, ie up to 3,000 euros. This offer is valid for registrations until the end of February 2024. Here too, a discount of the appropriate amount will be given.
The Volkswagen brand will cover the entire subsidy, ie the manufacturer’s share and the state’s share so far, for private customers who have already ordered a suitable vehicle from the ID family by December 15. If the vehicles are delivered and registered in 2023, you will receive a discount of up to 6,750 euros. However, if delivery and registration do not take place by the new year, which is March 31, 2024, Volkswagen will pay a premium of up to €4,500, as originally promised by the federal government.
