Fired Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann’s half-time speech leads to dismissal

Nagelsmann dismissed for speech at half-time: ‘The players looked at it…’

Julian Nagelsmann was fired by Bayern Munich because of a speech he made at halftime of the match between Bayern and Bayer Leverkusen (2-1 loss), according to information from Bild Sport.

At halftime of that game, the Rekordmeister still led 0-1. At halftime, then CEO Olivier Kahn and technical director Hasan Salihamidzic surprisingly entered the dressing room. What they saw there was enough reason for dismissal.

The club’s directors saw Nagelsmann give an ‘incomprehensible’ speech. According to the renowned German medium, the players looked with amazement at the instructions, which they could hardly follow.

Then the now national coach of the German team sent his team back outside without encouragement. Things went completely wrong in the second half: thanks to two goals from Exequiel Palacios, the points remained in Leverkusen.

After the half-time discussion and the losses, the directors were of the opinion that Nagelsmann’s days at Bayern were numbered. The German record champion approached Thomas Tuchel, who agreed. With Tuchel, Bayern became German champions again on the final day last season.

Ultimately, it turned out that Nagelsmann would not be without a job for long. In September 2023 he came into the picture of the German association. Hansi Flick was then fired nine months before the 2024 European Championship.

Nagelsmann has achieved mixed results with the national team so far. His first match was won 1-3 against the United States, but this was followed by a 2-2 draw against Mexico and he lost to Turkey (3-4) and Austria (2-0) respectively.
