The Brazilian national team has to do without its record goalscorer at the Copa America. Neymar (31) is unlikely to get fit in time.
The Selecao missed out on the title at the home Copa in 2021. In the final they had to admit defeat to arch-rivals Argentina. Angel di Maria scored the goal of the day in the heated finale.
In 2024, the Selecao wants to take revenge and bring the prestigious title back to Sugarloaf Mountain. However, the record world champion will most likely have to undertake this endeavor without Neymar. Team doctor Lasmar sees little chance of the superstar recovering in time.
“We assume that he will be ready for action again at the beginning of the European season 2024, i.e. in August,” said the doctor, according to Fabrizio Romano. Neymar is still in the early stages of the rehabilitation process.

Neymar suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his left knee during the World Cup qualifier against Uruguay (0-2) in mid-October 2023. The South American only played five games for his new club Al-Hilal, to which the world’s most expensive footballer moved in the summer of 2023.
Copa America is played in the USA
The Copa America will take place from June 10th to July 14th, 2023 in the United States. Brazil will face Colombia, Paraguay and Costa Rica or Honduras in the group stage (participants will be determined in play-offs in March 2024). Defending champion Argentina will face Peru, Chile and Canada or Trinidad/Tobago.
