In Jelgava, the largest “Mego” store has been opened in the “Pilsētas Pasāža” shopping center, where around 1 million euros have been invested. The total area of the store is around 3,000 m2, of which 1,720 m2 is allocated for sales.
The company reports that the assortment of products offered by the new supermarket includes more than 16,000 products from different segments and that 49 employees work in the store, including three confectioners and six cooks. Visitors to the store will have access to a wide range of culinary and confectionery products made right there in the shop’s workshop, as well as fresh meat from Latvian farms.
The company’s observations show that people are increasingly appreciating the finished products offered in the store. Therefore, the new shop has been equipped with modern pastry and cooking workshops, and visitors will be offered fresh ready-made food products every day.
“Mego” board member Igors Šihmans says that he is happy to close this year with such an investment project, opening the largest “Mego” store in Latvia.
“We are happy that our more than 24 years of work has yielded results and customers appreciate Mego’s efforts to improve the shopping experience in our stores. It is important for us to take care of customer service while keeping up with the times, so we are proud that we will now be located in one of the most modern shopping centers in the region – “Pilsētas Passage”. The premises of the new “Mego” store are equipped with LED lighting, and six cash registers will be available to its visitors. Along with LED lighting, the most energy-efficient and environmentally friendly retail equipment has also been installed,” says I. Šihmans.
Meanwhile, Juris Kalvelis, member of the board of the “Pilsētas Pasāža” shopping center, explained that the shopping center changes along with the needs and demands of the city, region and people.
“In less than a year, we will have turned into the largest entertainment and shopping center in Zemgale – these are the most ambitious changes that “Pilsētas Pasāža” has experienced in its 17 years of existence. These are more than visual changes – on December 19, along with the opening of the largest and most modern “Mego” supermarket, Zemgale’s first virtual entertainment room “VR Gaming” will also open its doors, soon the children’s amusement park “Kids Arena” will be available to visitors. while in March – a fitness club on the 4th floor. Our goal is that the citizens of Jelgava and the residents of Zemgale district have access to everything they need without having to travel to Riga,” said J. Kalvelis.
He also emphasized that the food retailer is one of the main arteries of the “City Arcade”. “We are proud that “Pilsētas Passage” will be the first of the new concept “Mego”, which will have both a wide range of products, including from local producers, as well as fresh, locally prepared cuisine,” added J. Kalvelis.
Andris Rāviņš, chairman of the municipal council of the city of Jelgava: “It is important for the municipality that residents can conveniently receive the widest range of services near their place of residence. The largest “Mego” store in Latvia is being opened today in Jelgava, and we hope that Jelgava residents will be satisfied with the store’s offers. It is also important that jobs are provided here for more than half a hundred people.”
