Three goals from Kirill Marchenko helped Columbus destroy Buffalo.
It is difficult to single out one player when the team crushes the opponent, sending nine pucks into their goal. However, in the Columbus-Buffalo match this is not a problem. Despite the fact that as many as 14 hockey players scored productive points in the Blue Jackets, the main hero of the meeting was undoubtedly forward Kirill Marchenko.
The Russian striker scored one of the fastest hat-tricks in Columbus history and scored what could be the most beautiful goal of the entire season.
All of America is delighted with Marchenko’s incredible performance.
Goal of the Year
Surprisingly, there were no hints about the defeat of Buffalo. Moreover, the Blades already turned on the red light in the home arena at the 30th second. However, then the hosts seemed to leave the ice, leaving only the goalkeeper on the ice. The Sabers conceded as many as seven unanswered goals in 20 minutes of playing time. First, Johnny Gaudreau equalized the score midway through the first period. Then Adam Fantilli, with passes from Gaudreau and Ivan Provorov, put Columbus ahead.
After the productive stretch of the Blue Jackets’ top five, the Russian offensive line came into play, led by Marchenko in this match. 12 seconds before the end of the opening 20 minutes, Kirill received the puck at the near post. For the defending team, the Russian forward did not pose a threat, because his back was to the goal. However, Marchenko quickly adapted to the situation and fired an accurate shot from under his feet into the far top corner.
The goal greatly impressed the fans, who already in absentia recognized the Russian’s goal as the best of the season.
– Goal of the year! – Tippacanoe sciate.
– Look out, Buffalo, there’s a Marchenkshaw show in town. It was crazy,” Grenzeloos wrote.
“Marchenko is a damn beast,” commented StartButtonPress.

Marchenko himself admitted that he had been training such a throw for a long time.
— I worked on this technique for three weeks in training with an empty goal. However, now I had a chance to score in the game. It’s just a job. For all. Ovechkin, for example, scores a lot of goals from the left wing. He worked hard at it. Every player, if you work hard, gains self-confidence,” Marchenko said.
The masterpiece goal did not quench the Russian forward’s thirst to improve his personal statistics, and in the middle of the second period he again scored a goal. This time, Marchenko, after a pass from Yegor Chinakhov, skated to the top of the face-off circle and drove the puck into the goal with his wrists. The hosts were clearly losing the game, and the Buffalo coaching staff decided to cheer up the team by changing the goalkeeper. But this did not help: after 18 seconds, Marchenko scored a hat-trick.
The Russian forward ran into a counterattack in the 2-on-1 format, but did not pass the ball, but fired a strong shot at the goalkeeper, who had barely entered the game. Thus, Marchenko set a new franchise record. In the history of the club, no one has ever managed to score two goals within 18 seconds of each other. The previous mark of 31 seconds was set by Cam Atkinson on October 27, 2018, also against Buffalo.
In addition, Marchenko’s three goals in eight minutes and seven seconds are the second fastest hat-trick in the club’s history. The record belongs to Jeff Carter (258 seconds), who hit the Nashville goal three times in 2011.
After Marchenko’s natural hat-trick, the Russian attacking trio stopped scoring points, but even without the second line, Columbus continued to smash the opponent. As a result, the Blue Jackets unexpectedly destroyed their neighbor in the standings on the road – 9:4.
After the meeting, the head coach of Columbus could not help but comment on Marchenko’s game. Vincent Pascal did not skimp on compliments and highly praised his player.
“He’s got the skills, he’s got the size, he’s a great personality. Marchenko is loved in the locker room, and he begins to communicate more. He’s a funny guy. He likes to have fun, but is also starting to take on a leadership role on the bench. We are truly lucky to have him with us. “It brings people together,” the Columbus head coach said.
Thanks to three goals, Marchenko equaled Boone Jenner (13) in the number of goals scored. In addition, the Russian took clear second place in the list of the team’s top scorers.
