Sila’s Titan Silicon Technology: Revolutionizing Electric Car Batteries with 800+km Range and 10-Minute Recharge

A California company has developed a technology that could give electric cars a range of more than 800 kilometers.

The technology, which also makes it possible to recharge in just 10 minutes, will be used by some of the world’s largest electric car battery manufacturers.

Sila, which was founded in 2011 by a former Tesla engineer, produces a powder made of micrometer-sized particles of nanostructured silicon, called Titan Silicon, which replaces graphite as the anode in traditional lithium-ion batteries.

Another advantage is that this change does not require new manufacturing techniques, notes Wires.

Sila has so far signed contracts with Mercedes-Benz and, more recently, with Panasonic for the supply of this technology as well.
