The Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) has closed the largest illegal streaming and torrent service in Spain, AtomoHD.
According to ACE, AtomoHD was launched in 2020 by a group of people, some of whom had previous convictions in Spain for intellectual property infringement and evasion of justice, who fled to Andorra. AtomoHD allowed users to illegally stream and download content from a VOD library of more than 13,000 movies and 4,500 television series in Spanish and other languages. Pirated content affects all ACE members.
Since its creation, the site has registered 235 million visitors, with an average of 9.7 million monthly visits and 484,000 unique visitors. Ninety percent of Internet traffic originated in Spain, followed by the United States, Germany and France. AtomoHD was working on 60 website domains.
Commenting on the development, Jan van Voorn, executive vice president and head of global content protection at the Motion Picture Association and president of ACE, said: “This removal represents another major victory for ACE over distributors of illegal content.
“It is increasingly clear that major offenders like AtomoHD are not immune to ACE’s enforcement measures.”
The domains are now being transferred to ACE and will be redirected to the Legal Monitoring page of the ACE website.
