Libreville, December 18, 2023 (AGP) – In Guinea, around ten people were killed and 84 injured following an explosion which occurred on the night of December 17 to 18, 2023 shortly after midnight, in an oil terminal in the capital Conakry, according to police sources cited by local media.
The fire is said to have been brought under control, but the provisional toll is currently at least ten dead and 10 others who suffered serious burns are in critical condition.
The explosion, which occurred at the West African country’s only oil terminal, shook the administrative district of Kaloum in central Conakry, blowing out the windows of several nearby houses and forcing Hundreds of people fled the area.
The fire of “unknown origin” for the moment could “directly impact the populations” given its “scale and consequences”, announced the Guinean government.
