The flu vaccination campaign, which for the elderly has been carried out simultaneously with the administration of a new Covid booster dose, which began on October 19, has partially mitigated what happened last year, that respiratory infections were earlier than the normal period.
Two months from that date there are 54,817 flu vaccines injected into the at-risk population of the GAI of Albacete. Most of them, specifically, 39,460 vaccines for people over 60 years of age, who constitute one of the most vulnerable groups of the population due to the complications that a flu infection can bring if they also have other pathologies; between 14 and 59 years old, the inoculated flu vaccine doses amount to 11,377; 3,980 vaccines have been given to children under 14 years of age, of which 1,012 are intramuscularly administered to children between six months and two years old; and 1,568 are the new pediatric intranasal sera for children between two and five years old, a novelty of the current vaccination campaign.
With these data, the Director of Nursing of the Integrated Care Management of Albacete, Juan David Fernández, reported that the coverage of the flu vaccine reaches 60.20% of the at-risk population, a percentage slightly lower than the 65% that was already last year around this time.
For this reason, Fernández took the opportunity to remember that in addition to making an appointment, at the respective health centers, people who have not yet been protected from the flu with the vaccine have the opportunity to do so freely without an appointment by going to the point vaccination center at the Specialty Center from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, “to try to increase vaccination coverage and protect the entire population, because if I get vaccinated I also protect others, especially everything, to the most vulnerable.
