Outgoing Justice and Security Minister Yesilgöz has an extradition treaty with Morocco in Rabat signed. About the agreements almost a year negotiated.
The new treaty will make it easier for suspects and criminals to be extradited for trial or to serve an already given prison sentence. Both countries have also agreed to continue discussing a stronger approach to criminal assets, underground banking and money laundering.
“We are further stepping up the joint fight against international organized crime,” said Yesilgöz, praising the good relationship with Morocco. There has also been a legal assistance treaty with the country for more than ten years, which allows, among other things, a suspect in Morocco to be prosecuted for crimes he allegedly committed in the Netherlands.
The text of the extradition treaty was discussed in June agreement reached. The intention is for the treaty to be submitted to the House of Representatives before the summer.
