In March, singer Roger Daltrey stated that the 2019 record would be their last. “What is the point? What is the point of the plates? We released an album four years ago and nothing happened. It’s great, but there’s no interest in our new music. People only want to hear the old hits. I don’t know why, but these are the facts,” he lamented in an interview with the British music website NME.com.
This year during the holidays, the British band went on an island tour. It can be seen as successful, but after it she entered a period where she had no plan.
Now, at least, guitarist Pete Townshend has announced that a meeting is planned for him and Daltrey to agree on the next steps. “I think it’s time we go to lunch and talk about what’s next,” he told Record Collector.
Pete Townshend of The Who wrote a rock novel
It’s no secret that Townshend has never liked touring, and Daltrey is fed up with recording albums. Nevertheless, the words of the guitarist, who has recently started performing in front of the audience with gusto, give some hope for the band’s next performance.

The Who were at their most famous in the 1960s.
“I’ve never really liked touring, but after the last few, UK, European and US, I admit I’ve started to feel fulfilled. I see it as very lucky that I am still making music and being able to perform at my age.”
They have not been to the Czech Republic yet
In 2013, the band announced a fiftieth anniversary tour. It was said at the same time that these would be her last concerts, but this did not happen. A small inspiration was perhaps the fact that there are still several countries in which she has not yet performed. The Czech Republic is one of them.
“There are still places where we haven’t played. It would be good to go to Eastern Europe and other countries where they haven’t heard our old hits live yet,” Townshend told the Evening Standard at the time.
However, these plans fell through, so it is possible that the famous rock band will never perform in our country. Or maybe Townshend and Daltrey will agree at the upcoming lunch together to try again, and everything will be different.
They are active
At the same time, Townshend is definitely not going to retire. He admitted a few weeks ago that he is still working on new songs, although he is aware that if they do come out, it won’t be under The Who banner. He is also recording the soundtrack to his novel The Age of Anxiety and plans to combine the two works into an opera.
“I’m still finishing the soundtrack. I am also working on a documentary about the entire project, from its inception in 2007 to today. I will probably finish it in two years and then I hope to stage it with a full operatic cast,” he said in an interview with The Sun newspaper.
It is worth remembering that the discography of The Who includes, among others, the famous rock operas Tommy (1969) and Quadrophenia (1973). Townshend is not walking in this direction for the first time.
Meanwhile, Daltrey was involved in making a film about drummer Keith Moon, who died in 1978. “I wrote a screenplay about his life because I never knew anyone like him. He was the funniest man I’ve ever met,” he revealed.
The British band The Who was formed in London in 1962. They immediately became famous with their debut album My Generation from 1965. During the following years, they released eleven more records.
The original lineup included Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, Keith Moon, who died in 1978, and bassist John Entwistle, who died of a heart attack in 2002.
