There is supposed to be a strong earthquake on the Reykjanes peninsula in Iceland. This is reported by the Icelandic national broadcaster RUV.
According to the media, the earthquake must have started in the magma corridor north of Grindavík on Monday evening at 9pm.
The earthquake is said to have triggered a volcanic eruption.
The largest earthquake should have measured a magnitude of 4.2, according to RUV.

Volcanologist Thorvaldur Thordarson says in an interview with the Icelandic newspaper Morgunbladid that at first glance it appears that “the worst case scenario” has occurred.
The eruption appears to have occurred at Hagafell, above Grindavík.
– It’s in the worst place, looks like.
– This is perhaps close to being the worst possible scenario. Unfortunately, he adds.
